About us

Driver Safety Services is Australia's leading provider of driver safety and management services. No other driver training organisation in Australia has our staff's track record for designing and implementing road safety treatments.

We're based in the island state of Tasmania. Our company was originally known as Road Transport Training (RTT). RTT was established in 1985 by the Tasmanian Road Transport Industry Training Board to service the training needs of their industry. Its initial focus was on skills-based training and later, as a Registered Training Organisation, delivering nationally recognised courses and qualifications.

Up-skilling the Tasmanian road transport industry is our core business. However, making drivers more skilful does not always translate into behavioural change or better business outcomes. In response to compelling research we have broadened our mission; it now reads: through innovation, our people and technology, we develop leading edge approaches to cost effectively improve driver behaviour.

We aquired a company called Driver Improvement Consultancy (DIC) to help us to achieve our mission. DIC staff were known in Australia for challenging convention and being the innovators in road safety. In the early 1990s they developed the low-risk model of driving. Many driver training organisations now imitate their work. From the low-risk model emerged crash-free driving and the innovative products and services you can access on this site.

We now integrate the crash-free philosophy into all our programs, and through our consulting services help organisations develop driver risk management systems.

In 2008 Road Transport Training was renamed Driver Safety Services.
