Driver Safety Services staff have accumulated more than 80 years experience in road transport and road safety. Here's a list of the more significant projects where our people have been the principal consultant.

During 2008/2009 Driver Safety Services project managed, designed and commenced implementation of a national young driver program, called keys2drive, for the Australian Automobile Association (AAA) and its constituent organisations,funded by the Australian Government ($17 million over five years, 2007 to 2011) to develop and roll out the program across Australia. keys2drive is a behavioural change program designed by DSS to combat the dramatic increase in crash risk the day novice driver’s transition from L's (Learner licence) to P's (Provisional licence). The behavioural change educational approach developed by Driver Safety Services for keys2drive is a unique attempt to address the high risk of novice drivers during their first six months of driving solo which is a world wide phenomenon.

70 000 fire fighters are undertaking the Safe driver program for New South Wales Rural Fire Service. It's designed to shape and reinforce participants' safe driving behaviour after training even if, as volunteers, they live and work outside the organisation.
- We've built and launched the AmbulanceDriving web site. This is a service by which ambulance services can access systems and resources to implement and manage a driving standards program.
- Conceptual framework and text for practice guidelines for new and returning motorcycle riders. Supplies enabling information about learning and engages readers in purposefully practising their riding skills. Client is VicRoads Corporation. Project conducted with Drummond research.
- Teaching materials in 'higher order skills' for driving instructors. Includes a 50 page booklet and supporting folder of resource materials. Project conducted for the Roads and Traffic Authority of NSW.
- Options for enhancing and revising the Driving Ability Road Test so that it aligns with a new graduated driver licensing system. Project for the Roads and Traffic Authority of NSW.
- Strategic implementation plan for a driving standards system for Rural Ambulance Victoria.
- New vehicle familiarisation system and associated educational materials for Metropolitan Ambulance Service (Melbourne), Rural Ambulance Victoria and Tasmanian Ambulance Service.
- Evaluation of the Monash University driver training curriculum and assessment for ambulance paramedics. The client is Rural Ambulance Victoria.
- Enhancing organisational performance through 'soft skills'. The client is the Printing Authority of Tasmania.
- Developed assessment resources and annotated competency standard for use with the training package Assessment and Workplace Training.
- Gambling Risks Community Education Strategy: provide research support, conducted focus groups, assisted in designing telephone survey, and advised on education methods. Project for the Dept. of Health and Human Services.
- Ambulance Service Registration: project in which DIC prepared Tasmanian Ambulance Service's application to become a Registered Training Organisation.
- Needs assessment of Ambulance Service: conducted an extensive needs assessment for the Metropolitan Ambulance Service.
- Driver knowledge test: project for the Roads and Traffic Authority NSW. Design and trial two hundred new questions for computer-based assessment.
- Road safety video: Developed a script, acted as technical advisers and helped produce the video for the Federal Office Of Road Safety.
- Driver licence assessment: project for the Department of Transport WA. The project involved designing a competency-based driver licence assessment for light vehicle drivers in WA. The assessment was introduced in March 1999.
- Driver Competency Standard: project for the WA Department of Transport. The Competency Standard was needed as the basis for the new driver licence assessment that was to be introduced as part of a driver training and licensing strategy. DIC was awarded the contract to write this standard in 1997.
- SA Ambulance Service Low-Risk Driving Program: Driver Improvement Consultancy designed and implemented the program. It comprised:
- a low-risk driving competency standard
- training curriculum
- support materials including a Participant's Logbook, a Participant's Workbook, and an Instructor Resource Kit
- assessment tools to meet the standard
- Australia Post Safe Rider Strategy. Driver Improvement Consultancy developed a safe rider strategy and a training and assessment package for Postal Delivery Officers. The program is currently being run Australia wide.
- NSW Bush Fire Service Driver Training Needs Analysis and Implementation Plan: A Driver Improvement Consultancy project.
- NSW Ambulance Service Low-Risk Driving Course and Instructor Training Course: Work done previously by Driver Improvement Consultancy staff.
- NSW RTA Draft Curriculum for Novice Drivers third edition: advised on the structure and framework to be used in the curriculum and wrote the information section on the curriculum's teaching application.
- Novice driver testing project for the NSW Roads and Traffic Authority: a test assessing drivers' low-risk driving behaviour accompanying the RTA's Novice Driver Curriculum. The test instrument was sub-sequently used in a large scale trial funded by the NRMA's Young Driver research program.
- Portfolio identifying and prioritising important elements of novice drivers' knowledge and understanding: A consultancy project for the NSW RTA Office of Road Safety.
- RACT novice driver competency based training scheme: The RACT employed Driver Improvement Consultancy to train RACT franchise operators in delivering a competency-based training and assessment program.
- NSW RTA Draft Curriculum for Novice Drivers Edition 2: Researched and written by company staff.
- Commercial Driving Instructor's Course: Designed and delivered this course in NSW. This course is one of only two accredited by the NSW RTA.
- Low risk driving programs for senior school students, novice drivers and experienced drivers: Research, designed and conducted by company staff.
- NSW RTA Level One Motorcycle rider training manual: designed the defensive riding component of this curriculum.
- Motorcycle Riding Standard and Instructor Training Course: designed these materials and had them accredited in NSW.
- Review of Motorcycle Rider Training in Tasmania for Transport Tasmania: A project undertaken by company personnel for a previous employer in partnership with Drummond research Pty Ltd.
