Heavy vehicle training courses
Light Rigid, Medium Rigid, Heavy Rigid, Heavy Combination
Training is conducted on a 1:1 (trainer/student) ratio, on-road under normal driving conditions, with a practical test at the end.
When and where
LR, MR, HR and HC training courses are provided on demand (subject to trainer/assessor and vehicle availability) in Hobart, Launceston and Ulverstone. We can run courses at other locations by arrangement if there are enough participants.
- Light Rigid: 4 hours (including test)
- Medium Rigid and Heavy Rigid: 8 hours (including test)
- Heavy Combination: 12 hours (including test)
Some applicants may require extra training (at additional cost). Drivers with prior experience may finish the course faster (minimum 2 hours).
Qualifications
A Statement of Attainment is available (subject to successfully completing a written knowledge assessment at additional cost), for the relevant licence class as follows:
- TLIC207C 'Drive Light Rigid Vehicle'
- TLIC307C 'Driver Medium Rigid Vehicle'
- TLIC407D 'Driver Heavy Rigid Vehicle'
- TLIC507D 'Drive Heavy Combination Vehicle'
Multi Combination training course
This course involves a classroom session of around five hours, plus on-road practical training and assessment of 2-3 hours when progressing from a Heavy Combination licence, or 12 hours when progressing from a Heavy Rigid licence.
Driver Safety Services provides a 21 metre B-Double for practical training and assessment, however applicants progressing from a Heavy Combination licence may provide their own vehicle (loaded to at least 50% capacity).
Course Fees
HC to MC $640.00 (When supplying own vehicle)
HC to MC $1,360.00 (When using Driver Safety Services vehicle)
HR to MC $1,680.00 (Using Driver Safety Services vehicle)
Qualifications
Applicants successfully completing all assessments are issued with a Statement of Attainment verifying completion of TLIC607C 'Driver mulit-combination vehicle' incorporated in the National Transport and Logistics training package (Road Transport) TLI07.
When and where
Multi Combination training courses are conducted regularly in Hobart, Launceston and Burnie, or on demand at another site for three or more people (subject to trainer/assessor availability).
